A 2007 Ipsos Reid survey found that only 5% of Calgarians identify poverty as an issue in Calgary. While this is an increase from 2% in 2005, it still indicates that public concern for the issue of poverty is very low. In comparison, concern for health and education-related policies is quite high (97%). The Poverty Reduction Coalition believes that creating a critical mass of individuals concerned about this issue would help instigate changes in practices and policies that contribute to poverty.
